Bioinformatician (Protein Engineering)

Evoralis, a spin-out from the University of Cambridge, is on a mission to enable the textile industry to become truly sustainable and circular. We use an ultra-fast screening platform to develop enzymes for breaking down mixed and blended textile fibres into their constituent building blocks for the production of virgin-grade textile fibres.​

 

In order to further accelerate the discovery and evolution of our enzymes, we are looking for a dedicated Bioinformatician to play a pivotal role in our ultrahigh-throughput workflows, from experimental design to analysis. You will be responsible for integrating modern computational methods with our revolutionary & cutting-edge wet-lab approaches.

Key responsibilities:

  • Use computational methods to analyse biological data for protein design, discovery and optimization

  • Experience in Protein Design & Protein Data mining

  • Manage large databases & develop data frameworks

  • Analyse, manage and organise large datasets generated from various protein engineering campaigns

  • Develop and integrate data science, automation, AI and machine-learning approaches in protein discovery and optimisation

  • Automate the capture, organisation and analysis of experimental data generated in the lab

  • Experience in using common data analysis packages and bioinformatics tools, such as sequence alignment tools

  • Experience with Linux environments and version control (git)

  • Good knowledge of R and/or Python

  • Work with Scientists from different fields as Protein Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry

  • Maintain good written records of computational work and framework

 

Desired skills, qualifications and experience:

  • We encourage individuals to apply who have just completed their PhD, looking to transition to industry and work in a dynamic fast paced environment

  • A Master's or Ph.D degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, or similar discipline, and a minimum of 4 years of related experience working with genomics data - Industry or academia

  • Record of scientific publications and/or contribution to the scientific community in the bioinformatics field

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with Scientists across R&D

  • The drive to work both independently and collaboratively, employing strong organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Good written & verbal communication skills

 

Our ideal candidate has/Desirable skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Experience with DNA or RNA library design

  • Experience in analysing next-generation sequencing data

  • Communicate outcomes effectively internally and externally
